Brannan Park

Brannan Park

Brannan Park is a great destination for sports lovers, as it features one of the city’s most heavily used sports complexes. The City of Auburn hosts numerous sporting events at Brannan Park, making it a popular spot for Cascade Middle School students and various youth soccer and little league teams. Brannan Park is a wide open space with the Green River on one side and houses all around. There is a path that goes around in a big circle, and eventually, it will join up with the Green River Trail.

On October 19, volunteers from the Auburn community and The Auburn Food Bank joined forces with KaBOOM! and Delta Air Lines to build a new playground. Over 250 non-profit organizations, service clubs, businesses, faith-based groups, scout troops, schools, social service organizations, families, and individual citizens collaborated with Delta Air Lines personnel and representatives from KaBOOM! in turning the area into a playlot in just six hours. Delta Air Lines not only contributed the vast majority of funds to help build the playground, but their employees also volunteered their time. In addition, Delta gifted $10,000 to both Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation Department and $10,000 to the Auburn Food Bank.

The park was named for the Brannan brothers, William and Joseph, who settled in the White River Valley in the mid-nineteenth century. In 1838, William and his wife were murdered during the early Indian conflicts. Joseph married Sarah Henness in 1857. They acquired the Meeker Farm in Kent in 1858 before moving to their donation claim near Auburn a year later. The park was dedicated in 1966 after it had been created over a period of several years.

Brannan Park, which is near the center of Auburn, is a popular local park frequented by locals. Brannan has little worth traveling far to see, but if you are riding the Green River Trail, you’ll go around the edge of the park. The facilities are mostly geared to pleasant baseball fields. There’s a skate park and a tiny children’s play area as well as several picnic areas!
